Boo has made it known for sometime that it's time to get a kitten in the house, A little ball of fur running about, climbing on things and making noise. I agree that the house has been very quiet and still the past month, but I didn't mind it, mainly because it ceased to matter.

The vet phoned about a kitten she had and asked us to come have a look. Boo was quite thrilled about the prospect, I was less than. We went the second time the vet phoned and Boo couldn't say no. So meet Lilac whose coloring and temperament is the opposite of my beloved Buddah, which I'm told is a good thing.

Lilac thought she'd play peek-a-boo at 6:30 a.m. Not exactly what I had
in mind for a Saturday morning, especially after walking on my head,
nibbling on my fingers and meowing at the top of her lungs at 2:30 a.m.
I had hoped to sleep in till 8:00 a.m. Silly me!

For the first time in a long time I'm appreciating and enjoying the cold, wet weather we've been having. It's a wonderful change and we do need the rain.

We've been hanging out indoors playing board games and catching up on HBO's The Wire series by viewing season four. I can't begin watching the new season 5 without viewing it in sequence. I'm anal this way!

Aside from this Nobuku's continuing his recovery. He has shown slight weight increase which we're very thankful for. It's taken about three months and he still receives an appetite stimulant every third day. The acupuncture ended the first of the year and his balance - while still wobbly - is much steadier and he walks a lot better.

Everything in moderation, yea?

...on Tuesday and Friday with Nobuku maintaining the progress made. We are no longer taking two steps back for each step gained.

We're holding our ground and it feels good to not wonder when the other shoe will fall.

His appetite is still off and he requires an appetite stimulant but his curiosity is back and he's talking to me again! I love it when he talks to me and lets me know that I'm doing something wrong...like not paying attention to him.

Thank God for the blessings.

...from acupuncture because, according to the vet, he's been super grumpy and hyper-sensitive to the needles. She feels he needs a break and a reduction in treatments. Nobuku will receive four days off, return next Monday and perhaps, not again until Friday. Hopefully for straight days off won't adversely affect the strides made and the strength in his hind legs.

Meanwhile, Boo and I left work which was fabulous! I've been wanting to stop at a local outlet mall to buy another game called Phase 10 that we enjoy playing at home a lot. I've wanted a separate for work and since the mayhem starts after Thanksgiving Day, Boo and I hurried to the mall and made our purchase.

Phase 10 Dice Game

Now the game at the outlet cost only $4.99 - no biggie, right? Well, we left in such haste to beat traffic, etc. that I left without a jacket. Boo had one but I didn't, so I was told that I had to buy one because the temps dropped so quickly.

Once you calculate the new jacket, the game (we ended buying 3 other items because if you buy three you get the fourth one free), dinner and dessert our "quick trip" cost us $50.

Remind me to stay home next time!

...has come to an end and not soon enough for Nobuku, who vet techs say has been a grouchy cat this week. Seems he nailed one tech and nipped at another on a different day. All in all he's able to:

walk on his hind legs without falling on his side.

He's able to stand motionless without warbling, he's steady.

He's walking more though, it is slow.

His level of curiosity is high as he's getting into things again.

He's been somewhat chatty.

And finally, he desires to go outside and inspect his domain. He rubs on everything to identify his territory!

This mean he will definitely receive another three treatments next week and then we'll reassess and see what the vet says. I am so thankful that my vet believes in acupuncture for animals and performs the procedure. I recommend it.

Week Two of Acupuncture

We've just returned from the first day of acupuncture for the new week and Nobuku is quite unhappy. He's upset at having to spend the entire day at the vet's. The treatment last two hours and is done when the doctor's schedule affords. If it's not until mid-day, which is most likely, we're both at work and unable to deliver him to the vet.

I do feel bad about him being away from home and his creature comforts, but am at a loss to workable compromise. Meanwhile, the improvement in muscle tone, improved appetite and good mobility proves that acupuncture is a beneficial treatment for him.

I must now go and grovel!

treatment for the next three weeks. We drop him Monday, Wednesday and Friday and retrieve him in the evening. He has responded quite well considering his right leg was practically just dangling and not supporting him. He initially had acupuncture in Spring 2006 and now that his strength is much improved the vet felt acupuncture was the next logical step. I'm excited and hopeful that this will give him relief from pain while stabilizing is hind leg muscles from atrophying.

Yesterday Nobuku (my cat) was looking so much better, still not eating the dry food on his own, but we take the smallest improvements as leaps.

Today he'd eaten dry food on his own while we were at work. He meowed at us as we walked past, indicating he was hungry for wet food. We placed some on a plate and he ate! He also meowed to see where in the house we were, since he was alone in the living room.

All things he hasn't done in a very long time. So, today was a fabulous day!

Thank you, Lord.

We now have a new concern about our soon-to-be 15 year old cat Nobuku. In 1-1/2 months time he's lost half a pound, which doesn't seem like much but is for cats. We do not have him on a diet and his daily food regimen hasn't changed. All of his blood work came back stellar so the next thing is a possible biopsy if the weight loss continues.

Meantime, he seems just fine. He is still active and alert though, he doesn't want to go outside like he used to. The vet says this may be due to partial hearing loss, fear of being unable to run/move fast enough if necessary or his desire to sleep even more. Either way, I no longer carry him outside to make him exercise even though I'm seated outside with him to offer support, if needed.

It's rather strange to see my cat growing old and realize that we too are changing in parallel. Some humans may not want to accept our similarities!
