My friend and co-worker Boop is defecting and leaving our department. It's no secret that she has been very unhappy with our new manager and desperate to get away from him. He's nearing his one year anniversary with us (yea, it's been that long) and Boop has given up hope of his leaving us.

She applied for a position at another location but still with the same company. Part of me desires to hold her back and discourage her because I'll miss her terribly. The other half recognizes her beaten spirit and mounting anxiety and knows what she needs to do.

She's confided to me about the new position and the fact H.R. phoned this afternoon to offer it to her. Boop's both excited and terrified of the change. When she asked my opinion I knew she wanted me to point out the negative and assure it would get better, but I couldn't.

I pointed out the positives and the hope of something better in the new position. Whereas our current department does not and will not offer this so long as Ogre remains. And frankly, the Mo-Fu isn't going anywhere, so she needs to do what's best for her.

I think she's going for it though, she doesn't realize it yet. I feel very sad but I'll suck it up and throw her the best going away party ever!
