I have been experiencing major headaches with Verizon's cellular coverage in the downtown Los Angeles area, of all places. I live in a major city and cannot receive/send SMS messages from/to work. It's ridiculous.
Calls to Verizon's tech support lead to the usual remove the battery with the phone on and reinsert it. Dial *228 to reset or program the phone. "Would you like upgrade? Your equipment is rather old."
Uh no, it's not old, nor is it obsolete. Besides why would I throw good money after an existing problem with no solution in sight?
Any Verizon folks out there who can HELP?
Recently my Canon A530 video recording setting changed and to record in B&W. Try as I did I couldn't change it back to color and couldn't find the owner's manual. I checked Canon's site and found the manual, as well as software updates for the included programs I'd received. Within five minutes my A530 was shooting video in color again!
Another thing I love using is Google's SMS service which allows me to quickly and easily receive phone and address information for any business as long as I know the city or zip code they're in. Additionally, I can get weather information, do price comparison and locate a restaurant to dine in when I travel. It's convenient and I don't necessarily have to be connected to the net because it's done via SMS.
Also, Google has been beta testing free directory assistance by dialing 1-800-GOOG411. I've tried it for businesses in Santa Barbara, as well as locally in the Los Angeles area. I'm pleased with the service and think it's a fantastic addition to their fine line of services. How did we function pre-Google?
I have been trying to upload a .jpg for awhile now with no success. It's a bummer too since I've already deleted it from my camphone and can't send it directly to Vox. Anyone else having problems?
Speaking of camphones, do you use yours to blog and send posts to Vox? If so, I'm interested in:
- What model of phone you use?
- Which cell carrier you use?
- Compose message from a standard computer (like from work) because I like longer entries.
- Send email to my cell phone.
- Attach photo snapped with cell phone to received text message.
- Forward completed blog entry to Vox.
Is there a friend who you owe a phonecall or email? What's stopping you?
Unfortunately, yes. I guess what keeps me from doing it is that I don't want to encourage long email exchanges. The gal writes three paragraph emails and that's just too much. I may sound rude, but I just don't have the time to get involved in lengthy email exchanges.
My other friend is always on the road blazing a trails on one of his eight Hogs (Harley). So he does a lot of SMSing to maintain contact and share his travels. The dude blows out my SMS with lengthy exchanges that end mid-sentence and continue on, for like three or more messages, to get the whole story. LOL For every six of his, I SMS once or twice.
For years I had a cell phone from 1995 that didn't do SMS, have a camera, have a vibration option, and was monochrome. Seriously, I upgraded to the Razor in May 2006.
Now I can SMS, take photos (albeit, not clear ones), set the phone on vibration so as not to disturb others when in the theater and it's in color. I believe Verizon even offers web access for an additional charge.
My primary reason for a cell phone is for an emergency. I have a plain vanilla plan that allows me 250 minutes monthly and I never exceed my minutes. I'm lucky if I have 30 minutes talk time per month. Seriously.
I thought the most used feature of the new cell would be the camera, since I've always carried a digital camera with me. Boy, was I wrong.
I use SMS a lot. It has made a difference in the quality of my relationship with friends and coworkers. We maintain contact after work hours and on weekends, somthing that had not happened before. It seems the ease and unobtrusiveness of SMS makes us feel free to connect without feeling that we're intruding as with a voice call.
I do use the camera, especially when I want to post to this blog. My standard digital camera requires me to first download my photos to a computer, then upload them to the site. By then hours may have passed! Whereas with one press of the button, the camera phone photos are emailed here - instantaneous, sweet and easy!
I love the ease with which I can upload photos to this blog, the VOX team did a fantastic job! Other blogs I've tried don't have photo uploads from camphones this easy and seamless. Okay, I'm off track...
I didn't realize what a relationship enhancement a new cell phone would be. It's technology that helps me stay connected and reinforce my relationships. I should have upgraded years ago!
