...has come to an end and not soon enough for Nobuku, who vet techs say has been a grouchy cat this week. Seems he nailed one tech and nipped at another on a different day. All in all he's able to:
- walk on his hind legs without falling on his side.
- He's able to stand motionless without warbling, he's steady.
- He's walking more though, it is slow.
- His level of curiosity is high as he's getting into things again.
- He's been somewhat chatty.
- And finally, he desires to go outside and inspect his domain. He rubs on everything to identify his territory!
treatment for the next three weeks. We drop him Monday, Wednesday and Friday and retrieve him in the evening. He has responded quite well considering his right leg was practically just dangling and not supporting him. He initially had acupuncture in Spring 2006 and now that his strength is much improved the vet felt acupuncture was the next logical step. I'm excited and hopeful that this will give him relief from pain while stabilizing is hind leg muscles from atrophying.
We now have a new concern about our soon-to-be 15 year old cat Nobuku. In 1-1/2 months time he's lost half a pound, which doesn't seem like much but is for cats. We do not have him on a diet and his daily food regimen hasn't changed. All of his blood work came back stellar so the next thing is a possible biopsy if the weight loss continues.
Meantime, he seems just fine. He is still active and alert though, he doesn't want to go outside like he used to. The vet says this may be due to partial hearing loss, fear of being unable to run/move fast enough if necessary or his desire to sleep even more. Either way, I no longer carry him outside to make him exercise even though I'm seated outside with him to offer support, if needed.
It's rather strange to see my cat growing old and realize that we too are changing in parallel. Some humans may not want to accept our similarities!
...arthritic today and unhappy about the unscheduled vet visit. I know, I am a bad mom! However, Little Girl is doing alright despite her chemo treatment. We received reassurance from our neighbor who had given her dog daily chemo treatments, whereas LG is on three and off four once daily. He appetite has diminished slightly, but she's hydrated, alert and still eating. The gal at the vet's told us "Funny, Nobuku was walking just fine when we treated him." Aha, I bet he was! LOL
